I wish you a beautiful 2016: a year of creation, a year where you spend more time doing what you love.
I have told this story many times but, I started doing photography as an amateur in 2005, and starting making money with it in 2008, and became a full time professional in 2010. I was so scared to change my life because I had a very stable job as a VP of Sales at a web company; I had a wife and four kids to provide for.
It turned out beautifully and I now get to travel the world taking photos and share them with the world. I think it’s one of the most fun and exciting jobs on the planet. I still manage to provide for my family. If I had known that it was going to turn out this way I would have done it much earlier.
Don’t waste your life doing something you do not enjoy, do what you love and you will be good at it. I know change and bridging over is not easy, you have to find the right niche for you to cover your needs, but at least try to do something that is closer to what you really like.
Also, don’t forget to work on what you really love, even if you do interior, wedding or commercial work to make a living, try portraits or landscapes, macro or whatever you actually love. In my experience it is these types of photos that will bring you the most success in the long run.
I started by doing interior design and was doing urban landscape for the fun.
Today, my urban landscapes are my main source of income; my work is in over 85 galleries around the world and in many libraries via my books.
I’m not saying that to brag, but to encourage you to follow your passion.
Don’t waste your time living somebody else’s dream — live yours !
